The 2016 Striper Season is off to an early start on the Vineyard. Early reports say the first fresh striper was caught on Martha's Vineyard on April 14th! There are multiple reports of Stripers being caught as this nice Spring weather has kicked things into gear. Where they are being caught, when and on what are of course always secretive so just get out there and wet a line!

MVSA collected a large amount of provisions that were to be sent to SSG Joseph Larson and his unit, somewhere in
Iraq. The unit benefitted from the MVSA donations a few months back. He again sent his
sincere thanks and said that because they will soon be back stateside he said
not to send anymore packages.
If we are going to collect and send packages in the future we will have to keep
our ears open for military members who are serving overseas.

Folks
The Wampanoag Natural Resources Dept is looking for
volunteers to help plant beach grass on the recently replenished Lobsterville
Beach. The planting will take place April 24’th from 9:00 – 3:00.
You’re probably aware that the sand dredged from the Menemsha channel over the
winter was used to replenish the beach on the West Basin side. If you
haven’t been up there to see it yet 1) it’s pretty amazing, and 2) this would
be a great opportunity to see it and help out with this important
project. Link to the Dept site and additional details
http://www.wampnrd.com/
Looks like coffee, water, snacks, and LUNCH from an
up-island food truck will be provided. Bob Lane brought this event to the
club’s attn: and will be there. If you attend pls take some pics and
email them to me. I’ll make sure Ron gets them for the newsletter, and
Dave for the web site. I won’t be able to participate in the planting
(off-island day job), but will be there for the beach cleanup the following
Sun, April 30, 10:00 AM, Left Fork.
Please help for a few hours if you can, very important
fishing spot, I can vouch for at least two big albies that came out of the Bowl
two Derbies ago J

March 2016 Beach Update from The Trustees
Chris Kennedy
Many of you have probably heard about the disagreement
between the County Commissioners and the Trustees over renewal of a long term
agreement for the management of Norton Point Beach by TTOR. We are hopeful this issue can get resolved in
the next few weeks. Our current
agreement with the County expires on 3/31 but we intend to continue to manage
the beach as long as it appears we are making some progress with the County to
resolve our differences. We have an
incredible staff that work at all of the beaches and who put the resource and
public access high on their list. Continued...

The movie The Finest Hour is being screened at the MV Film Society Jan 29-31. It depicts the heroic rescue of the crew of a stricken oil tanker in 1952 by a Coast Guard Crew from Chatham. The Jan 31st, 4:00 PM screening is being sponsored by several island organizations, including the MV Derby. Members of the Coast Guard, both past and present will be on hand for that screening, and will discuss the movie/take questions from the audience. Nelson sent me a note about the sponsored event, to let the club know that tickets will sell out fast. Please see the MV Times writeup in today’s paper http://www.mvtimes.com/2016/01/20/screening-of-the-finest-hours-will-honor-station-menemsha-crew/
