Land Meets Land; Norton Point Breach Closes
Vineyard Gazette
By Sara Brown
April 2, 2015
As of early in the morning on April 2, Chappaquiddick was no longer an island completely separated from Martha’s Vineyard.
Nearly eight years after a northeaster cut a breach in the three-mile barrier beach that often connects Edgartown with the smaller island, the Norton Point breach had closed.
Breach now closed, a cove has formed. — Bill Brine
“It’s pinched off,” Chris Kennedy, The Trustees of Reservations superintendent for Martha’s Vineyard, told the Gazette Thursday morning. “Basically we no longer have flowing water going from the Edgartown harbor into the ocean.”

Kittery Trading Post has a great upcoming event. On May 2nd from 10:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. KTP will be having a "Try Before You Buy" surf casting demo day. The event will take place on the Kittery Trading Post docks behind the main store in Kittery, Maine. There is a nice lagoon there to test these new products and really see what they have to offer and test it out.
St. Croix, Penn, and Bomber lures are bringing their newest product for anyone to try. There will be special deals on fishing products in the store as well as coupons and giveaways from the manufacturers themselves. St. Croix and Penn are building a surf combo to give away in a raffle for anyone who test casts their new product. It should be a fun event with the opportunity to go home with some great stuff.
Click here to be brought directly to the Kittery Trading Post event page.

As of April 2, 2015 the Norton Point Breach has now closed after being open for 8 years! A nice Spring gift from Mother Nature to get us all excited about the 2015 fishing season. It is absolutely amazing the changes that have taken place over the years and how it is almost put back together again. Will it last?...only time will tell.
Check out the pictures provided by Ron Domurat.

Come one, Come all!!!
Join your fellow Surfcasters for a morning of community service on Saturday, April 11th, from 10-12 for the annual Earth Day beach clean-up. The Surfcasters have cleaned up South Beach since the beginning of this spring tradition on Martha’s Vineyard. We will have bags for you but bring a pair of gloves (although we usually are given a few by the Vineyard Conservation Society, sponsors of the event) and come on down to left fork. From there we will try to cover both the left and right fork parking areas, the outer beaches and Norton Point beach. Celebrate Earth Day and make a difference by helping to clean up our beaches. Immediately following the clean-up there will be an after-party at Harbor View Hotel featuring a light lunch (for as long as it lasts).
For more information, please contact Dave Nash, 508-627-4987, oystercatcher@verizon.net

Check out the latest photos of the Norton Point breach as it is approaching Wasque Point. The breach is getting closer to closing as the Norton Point end continues the trek to Wasque Point. It is almost hard to believe Norton Point is almost connected to Wasque again...Wow!
