Janet Messineo repainted and spoofed up the MVSA line box at Eastville beach. Janet also posted the current MA state regulations for Striped Bass, Scup, Fluke and Black Sea Bass in English, Portugese and Russian. There will be no confusion or excuses this year on the regulations and size of these fish.
Check out Janet's photos of the new updated box and Former President Bob Lane who helped Janet to install the box back on the beach.

Any day now!
A contract has been signed with the winning bidder (I think a Rhode island firm) and they have recently sent their surveyor out here to lay out the project. Most of the materials are “off the shelf” except for some steel components and fabrication was completed last week. Next step is to deliver these to the island, probably via a barge which will assist with the construction. No details on when this will all start to happen but the contract was issued with a June 30 completion date. I suspect that very shortly we will see something going on there so if any of you notice anything please let us know.

Beach Update (5.2.13):
All beaches are currently open for driving and walking access. Our shorebird monitors have been keeping track of plovers at the Gut, East Beach (including Leland Beach) as well as Norton Point Beach. Terns have begun arriving on Norton Point Beach. There are American Oystercatcher nests at Cape Poge, East Beach, and Norton Point Beach. Those Oystercatcher nests should not have any impact on currently driveable beaches.

This is the latest aerial photo by Bill Brine as of April 2013. Thanks to Bill Brine for this amazing photo. It is truly amazing what is going on out there and hard to believe the migration of Wasque.

Priscilla Bloomfield and Cynthia Wigren appreciate the wildness of Nauset Beach in Orleans. The two have started the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising money for shark research.
Their efforts may also help shark experts like Greg Skomal in their research.

Fishing Pier update
After some confusion over the specifications for some of the materials, the state has now completed a second bidding process and has awarded a contract to Atlantic Support Installations, Inc. out of Hopedale, Massachusetts. There hasn’t been any discussion of moving the due date back so we’re still hopeful that by June 30 there will be a new fishing pier on the Oak Bluffs waterfront.

Both boards will issue a list of conditions to ensure contractors preserve the sensitive ecology of the shorefront site and limit the impact on Chappaquiddick residents. That move is expected to take several weeks. In the meantime, the boards will allow work on the project to proceed.
Edgartown selectmen gave permission Monday to contractors to use the Chappaquiddick ferry parking lot to stage the heavy equipment needed for the move.
