MARTHA’S VINEYARD SURFCASTERS ASSOCIATION DONATE PARK BENCHES AT UPPER LAGOON POND
The organization continues to encourage the public’s enjoyment of the Island’s natural surroundings.
Martha’s Vineyard, MA (July 17, 2003) – The Martha’s Vineyard Surfcasters
Association (MVSA) recently donated and constructed two park benches that were
placed along the access road on the eastern side of the Upper Lagoon Pond. The
benches are similar to those along the Oak Bluffs sea wall and are constructed
with concrete end
frames and white cedar slats. The benches are intended for use by anglers
fishing the Upper Lagoon shoreline as well as the general public that enjoy the
areas scenic beauty. The MVSA plans similar donations at various locations in
the future.
The "Vineyard Surfcasters", consist of men, women, boys, and girls who all share in the passion of sport fishing. Both Island residents and visitors belong to the organization which provides numerous activities that promote the sport.
According to Walter Lison, the organization’s vice president and chairman of the park bench project: "We are very pleased to provide these benches to those who will enjoy the area’s scenic beauty. The project encourages the public’s enjoyment of fishing while providing a comfortable and safe perch to observe the wonders on nature."
The purpose of the Martha’s Vineyard Surfcasters Association is to encourage the sport of surfcasting and interest in sport fishing; to gather for entertainment and good fellowship; to promote and uphold sound conservation practices and laws, and to see that these laws are properly enforced and carried out by members; to further good sportsmanship; and to seek and protect public access to fishing areas on Martha’s Vineyard. Membership in the non-profit group is open to all.
