The site contains a wealth of information about fishing the in-shore areas of the island and conservation issues relevant to sport fishing. Of particular interest to anglers are the website’s sections on fishing reports, interactive forum, and helpful angling information. Award winning photos depicted on the site showcase the "Vineyard" as the premier East Coast fishing destination. The "Vineyard surfcasters", consist of men, women, boys, and girls who all share in the passion of sport fishing. Both Island residents and visitors belong to the organization which provides numerous activities that promote the sport. Included among the fishing subjects within the website are surfcasting, fly rodding, and boat fishing. According to Jeff Sayre, the organization’s president: "The website will become a great resource for fellow anglers hungry for information about Martha’s Vineyard fishing. We are extremely pleased to provide this service to both MVSA members and non-members alike. A primary mission of our group is to promote good fellowship among Vineyard anglers and the MVSA website achieves this objective." The website was designed by members of the organization and will be maintained by a MVSA website committee consisting of Ron Domurat, Bob Lane, Janet Messineo, Gary Mirando, Pete Costas, Chris Windram, Jeff Sayre, and Phil Cronin. The purpose of the Martha’s Vineyard Surfcasters Association is to encourage the sport of surfcasting and interest in sport fishing; to gather for entertainment and good fellowship; to promote and uphold sound conservation practices and laws, and to see that these laws are properly enforced and carried out by members; to further good sportsmanship; and to seek and protect public access to fishing areas on Martha’s Vineyard. Membership in the non-profit group is open to all and information about joining is contained within the website. For information about the MVSA please call Jeff Sayre at (508) 693-4841, email info@mvsurfcasters.org, or visit the website at http://www.mvsurfcasters.org. (end) |
