The Norton Point Breach is continuing to close at an amazing rate. Ron Domurat reported the following:

"This is all that is left to the breach itself-about the width of the Gut! This was taken at dead low tide."

Only mother nature knows what is in store next for the breach. One can visualize that some day it may be possible to drive from Norton Point over to Chappy once again. Everyone has different opinions on if this would be a good thing or a bad thing but it does get the mind wandering. Time will tell....

Well, Friday the 13th proved very unlucky for the Wasque waterfront area. During the weekend of January 13, 2012, there was yet another bad storm that brought over 50+ MPH winds and destructive surf.  The entire Wasque lookout area, lookout platform and stairs are now being eroded into the beach and ocean below. It will not be long before mother nature will consume this area and drag it into the Atlantic. It is overwhelming and sad to see what is happening to this historic area that has held a special place in every Chappy fishermen's heart.

Thanks to Bob Clay for these photos.

Experts have made the first scientific attempt to quantify the shark phenomena in local waters, and what they have concluded is (spoiler alert): More seals means more sharks.

The MV Surfcasters have played a role in supporting the MV Derby American Heroes event in the past, and were out in force on Sept 20'th to support the visiting wounded warriors and their families during the 2011 East Beach outing.  MV Surfcasters provided logistical support moving the visitors from the Beach Plum Inn out to East Beach.  Surfcasters then worked one on one with the vets and their families casting for blues and dunking bait on East Beach throughout the afternoon and early evening of the 20’th.  As much as this is a fishing outing, it's really more about spending time with the vets, making them feel welcome, and providing them with an opportunity to relax and enjoy some of the wonderful places we get to fish on MV.

Surfcasters who helped out included Wally White, Bob Lane, Mike Stimola, Janet Messineo, and Phil Horton.  Surfcasters Peter Johnson, Paul Schultz, Will and Sue Geresy, and Dan Geary were part of the TTOR team that supported the outing.  The vets and their families had a great time.

Greg Myerson of Westport, Conn. hooked an 81.88-pound striped bass that, if certified, would top the current International Game Fish Association all-tackle world record by more than 3 pounds. (Kierran Broatch | On the Water Magazine)

Janet Messineo was out at the Wasque rip on Saturday the 9th of July and would like to share this report with our audience.

"The tide was HIGHER than I had ever seen before. The entire lower beach boardwalk from the parking lot was submerged in thigh high water. It was hip deep walking down from the parking lot on the lower board walk. This occurred 2 hours AFTER high so one can only imagine what it looked like before that time. By the time I was done fishing the water had subsided. This is very strange since the moon was barely half! The full moon is not until July 15th. Was this caused by the breach? It was the strangest thing walking down the boardwalk up to my thighs in water, kinda creepy. Maybe someone else has an explanation. I do not think I have EVER in 35 years seen that."
